2020 Creative Trends

If 2019 was any indicator of what to expect in 2020, we can definitely say transparency, augmented reality, and practicality will rule the creative marketing world. Below, we’ve curated the top trends within five different industries.

Advertising

What do people want? Humor and honesty! Some of the internet’s most viral ads also happen to be engaging and light-hearted, while answering the important questions. This advertisement by Lume Deodorant hilariously sells deodorant while addressing concerns in the video and comment section.

Photography

2019 welcomed highly stylized, almost animated imagery. Dreamy landscapes and out-of-this-world effects took ordinary photos to the next level. We can be sure we’ll see more of this in 2020. Photographer Molllified takes her travel photography to colorful pastel paradise while Calob Castellon imagines portraits from far away places–all with a little help from Photoshop.

At the opposite end of the creative spectrum, we’ll also see natural photos with barely-there-edits, particularly for advertisements and business accounts. Stock photos and photoshoots continue to become more authentic. The Adventure Challenge keeps it simple with lifestyle photography to promote their scratch-off books.

Graphic Design

Text-based designs and abstract, retro illustrations may just take social media feeds over this year. Inspirational posts, like that of Sophia Joan Short, or laid-back, soft portraits by illustrator Louisa Cannell made big impacts in 2019. These trends are definitely here to stay, especially alternated with brand-made promotional content, as seen on brands like Refinery29 and Orange Theory.

Web

Are robots coming in 2020!? Almost! Automated messaging, particularly over Facebook and Instagram, helps potential customers engage with business owners without actually engaging with business owners. This will continue to be more popular with brands that hope to connect with their audience for improved customer service and answer frequently asked questions.

While shoppable posts are already here, make sure your business is ready to make sales through Facebook and Instagram, even MORE, this year. While not applicable for every brand, there are plenty of options to create sales through social media, including setting up appointments or consultations.

Videography

Portrait-oriented videos took over social media with the influx of story posts. Don’t expect that to change! However, do expect to see video content optimized for each viewing platform–filmed or edited in different orientations so the final product fits the size of the destination.

Subtitles will be more prevalent to both improve accessibility and support the growing number of viewers who mute their feeds while scrolling through social media.

So, will you brand jump on these trends this year? Now is the time to start!
