What is your goal?

Before you spend time and money cooking up a campaign, do you know what you actually hope to gain from it? More often than not, you want to boost sales by directly highlighting your product or service. However, this can take a variety of different forms.

Maybe you want to support your brand a little less directly by improving audience awareness or shifting your brand’s image.

Sometimes you might just want to get people excited for a coming update or announcement.

Whichever your goal, make sure your call to action aligns.

What can the audience get in return?

Everyone wants something. So what incentive do you give your audience to stick around for your ad or, better yet, become a client, customer, or fan?

GIVE. A great attention-getting campaign gives something of value like a discount code or a free download.

Even if it’s not your goal to directly boost sales, maybe you just want to give your audience a laugh, teach them something about your brand or the work you do, or overall improve their lives in some way.

Why do you love your favorite ads?

Think about your all-time favorite commercials. What makes them so great? Are they funny? Heart-warming? Clever? Does it tell a bit of a story? Some ads manage to stick around for years, even decades. Take the M&M’s Christmas ad where Red and Yellow meet Santa in 2006. Their Christmas Eve adventure returns every year. Your favorite ads might just help you find the inspiration for a great, new campaign of your own!
