5 Tips for Remote Working!

Usually, we like to share our tips for social media strategy or pointers for effective storytelling (because that’s what we do!), but with everything going on in the world, we figured maybe some of our other insights could be helpful. If you’re experiencing working remotely for the first time, fear not! At Rogue, we’ve got a lot of experience with working remotely since most of us work from home every Friday.

Here are our five tips for successful remote working.

  1. Start your day like any other day. It might be tempting to work in your pajamas or sleep in. Jump into your regular routine with breakfast, a cup of coffee, and a change of clothes before getting to work. You’ll want to separate work-you and home-you for boosted productivity.

  2. Create a comfortable workspace. If you really want to buckle down, find a distraction-free space without: music, phone, pets, roommates, kids, and  TV. It’s easy to hop in bed and grab your laptop, but try sitting at a desk with open blinds and a candle! You might find a huge boost in productivity. But hey, if you work best with Netflix streaming, Spotify blasting, and a dog next to you, go for it! Now is also your chance to do what you couldn’t normally try in the office.

  3. Get your communication tools ready. Whether you’ve got a team of people or clients to connect with, go digital. Apps like Zoom, Slack, Google Docs can facilitate collaboration and reopen communication forums. Maintain your routine just as you would in the office with regular check-ins. A giant conference call might just feel like being right in an office meeting. (Warning: watch out for the options to change background images on Zoom video calls. You might end up having too much fun.) You can also use Zoom or other video-communicating programs for face-to-face conversations with clients.

4. Stay organized. The Monday and Trello apps have great features for timing your work hours, making to-do lists, and keeping track of tasks. Plus, when the time comes to get back to office, you’ll still have these resources available. If you need to prioritise your tasks for the day, do it! Keep your workspace tidy too so you don’t feel overwhelmed with tasks and clutter

5. Every thirty to sixty minutes, take a healthy break. Grab a snack and get outside. A short walk with your dog or a phone call with a friend can help relieve stress and give your eyes a new view away from your computer screen. Open up the windows for some fresh air if you can, and don’t forget to stay hydrated. Schedule out a time for lunch and step away from your screens for a bit.
